Mark Rutte the Game

2020

The study year 2020 was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic striking society. This meant that we were forced to study from home. This also resulted in a shift of thematics in the studies, there a was a lot of focus on Corona, and how we could deal with it.

This led to a project during the studies focusing on virtual reality and Covid-19. With a group of students we came up with Mark Rutte the Game. This game would let you step into the position of the prime minister of the Netherlands at the time, Mark Rutte. Inside the game you have to control the country, make choices about peoples lives, and make sure the society stays healthy. However, not everyone will agree with your choices, and chaos is always on the edge of arrival.

Are you able to keep calm and steer the country in these difficult times?

During this project I worked on creating an estimated simulation of the corona virus in a country using Visual Studios. This was a fun challenge which we picked up with a smaller part of the group. Making the simulation resulted in a lot if discussion and deep diving into disease spreading and impact of regulations on this spreading.

This game came out great, and showed the difficulty of running a country. Keeping everyone healthy and happy at the same time, seems to be quite hard in turbelent times.
